This month, we are proud to feature a talented trio: Rena Toshimitsu, a captivating vocalist and drummer; Kei Sugiyama, a versatile guitarist active in musical theater and game music recordings; and Nagi Tosaka, a gifted bassist who has studied under renowned artists, performed with jazz legends, and excelled across multiple genres.

Rena Toshimitsu (Vocal, Drums)
Rena Toshimitsu is a Tokyo-based vocalist and drummer originally from Saitama, Japan. Influenced by her mother, a soprano singer, she developed an early interest in music.
After graduating from the music program at Saitama Prefectural Omiya Koryo High School, she completed her studies in the Jazz Course at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, graduating top of her class and being selected as a distinguished graduate for her final research project. She studied jazz drums under Masahiko Osaka.
She has performed with numerous artists, including tenor saxophonist Seiichi Nakamura and pianist Tsuyoshi Yamamoto. In 2025, she joined tours in Shanghai and Beijing, and later participated in the Japan tour of Australian bassist and vocalist Nicki Parrott, further expanding her presence both in Japan and internationally.
Following her solo concert in 2022, she began focusing more seriously on her work as a vocalist. In recent years, her unique performance style--singing while playing the snare drum--has drawn increasing attention. She continues to explore a musical expression that bridges the perspectives of both drummer and vocalist.
In addition to her active performance schedule at jazz clubs across the Kanto area, she also works as a jazz drum instructor at bf Jazz School.
Kei Sugiyama (guitar)
Born in Takatsuki City, Osaka, Japan. He began playing the guitar at the age of 12 under the influence of his father.
In 2014, he received the Best Soloist Award at the Tokai Big Band Contest, and in 2018, he was awarded the Most Outstanding Student Award at the Seiko Summer Jazz Camp.
While actively performing with jazz musicians, his work spans a wide range of fields, including musical theater productions and video game music recordings.
Nagi Tosaka (bass)
Born in 2000 in Mitaka, Tokyo, Japan. She graduated from the Jazz Course (Bass Major) in the Department of Performance and Creative Music at Kunitachi College of Music.
She began performing professionally while still a student, and in January 2022, she performed with Yosuke Yamashita at the event "Tsukiyo no Ongakukai," held in conjunction with an exhibition by Samiro Yunoki.
In March 2024, she joined the trio led by drummer Shinnosuke Takahashi, and in October 2025, performed with the trio at Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall.
In addition to her musical activities, she is also involved in illustration and other creative fields. She has studied under Yosuke Inoue and Ken Kaneko.
