Bistro NOHGA presents "UENO JAZZ NIGHT, 2026" 
From lively jazz numbers to soulful ballads, enjoy a diverse selection of music that will both captivate and delight, bringing vibrant energy to the art and culture district of Ueno by night.
This month's performance features a trio of outstanding musicians: SOA, a popular vocalist based in Kansai and active on stages across Japan; Yusuke Kono, a pianist who has completed his first European tour; and Shunya Nakabayashi, a saxophonist with an active presence at live music venues throughout Tokyo. 
Why not indulge in delicious cuisine and your favorite drink while immersing yourself in the enchanting world of jazz?

Vocal:SOA
Since 2016, SOA has been active in jazz scenes across Japan, primarily based in the Kansai region. 
In February 2017, she released her first mini album, SOA, followed by her second album, FIND, in May 2018 under her leader project SOA ORBITAL ARCHITECTS. 
In May 2020, her first full-length album, Voice of Buoy, was released nationwide through Todoroki Jazz Records. Under the name SOA New Quintet, she later released the EP San in 2021 and U in 2023. 
With exceptional vocal ability recognized through awards at numerous jazz competitions in Japan, and a musical background shaped by extensive performance experience across diverse genres since her teenage years, SOA continues to create distinctive, genre-defying music. 
In January 2026, she celebrated the 10th anniversary of her professional career and launched a special Anniversary Project to mark the milestone. 

Piano : Yusuke Kono
After returning from New York in the fall of 2014, Yusuke Kono formed the Yusuke Kono Piano Trio. The following year, the trio won the Grand Prix at the prestigious SAPPORO CITY JAZZ Park Jazz Live Contest. 
In July 2016, the trio embarked on its first European tour, performing at the renowned Vienna Jazz Festival in Austria--one of the world's leading jazz festivals--and at the legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, where they received an enthusiastic response from local audiences. 
In 2017, Kono released Be with Us, an album recorded at Bunker Studio in New York featuring two of the most acclaimed figures in contemporary jazz, Walter Smith III and Warren Wolf. The album achieved exceptional success, selling more than 2,000 copies. 
In November 2022, he celebrated the release of his fourth album, Episode I, with a sold-out performance at the prestigious COTTON CLUB in Marunouchi, Tokyo. 
In 2024, Kono launched a new project called Soundtype, and is currently touring Japan as the band's pianist. With performances at venues including Shinagawa Club eX and COTTON CLUB, the project regularly attracts audiences of more than 250 people per show, further establishing Kono as one of the leading figures in Japan's contemporary jazz scene. 

Sax：Shunya Nakabayashi
Shunya Nakabayashi was born in Kanagawa, Japan. He began playing jazz saxophone at the age of 10 and started performing at live music venues in Tokyo while still in high school. 
In 2016, he entered the Jazz Studies Program at Kunitachi College of Music, where he studied jazz saxophone under Atsushi Ikeda and classical saxophone under Kuninobu Bando. During his third year, he served as Concertmaster of the program's big band, Gemstones Jazz Orchestra. 
Nakabayashi was selected as a member of the Makoto Ozone Presents JFC All-Star Big Band, performing at the prestigious Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2018. 
In March 2020, he graduated at the top of his class from Kunitachi College of Music's Jazz Studies Program and received the Yatabe Award, one of the institution's highest honors. 
Since graduation, he has been actively performing at live music venues throughout Japan and has appeared at renowned venues including Blue Note Tokyo and Bunkamura Orchard Hall. 
Today, he performs primarily with his own group, Shunya Nakabayashi Quartet, while also appearing with ensembles such as BANDiSH, led by Shun Oba, and Yunosuke Nara's BIG-GUEST BAND. In addition to performing, he is active as an educator for junior and senior high school students and big band ensembles, and works regularly as a recording musician. 

He also serves as Planning Advisor for the Lilis Jazz Series at the Sakae Community Cultural Center Lilis in Yokohama.
