[Introducing our collaboration partner]
Nisshin Kikinzoku: Tokyo Silverware, Master Silver Craftsman
Tokyo Silverware is a traditional Tokyo handicraft produced primarily in the Taito, Arakawa and Bunkyo neighborhoods. Today, Tokyo's silver crafts, produced by Edo craftsmen using techniques honed across generations, are cherished around the world as quintessential artisanal works of Japan.
The Nisshin Kikinzoku workshop carries on the tradition of twelve generations of silver master craftsmen, starting from the end of the Edo period. Today, the modern Nisshin Kikinzoku workshop is a classic Edo family business - Sosho Kamikawa, the second-generation master, works together with the up-and-coming third generation to further polish their time-honored craft. The entire workshop family devotes themselves daily to contributing to their local region and society by producing and selling traditional wares and metalworks that make full use of their skills and can be used by their customers for generations, and passing their artisanal techniques and culture to the next generation.
